Let yourself be guided by the charm of our village, surrender to the magic of the gypsy nights,
the fiery sounds of guitars. The discovery of the village and its Church is one of the pleasures of staying
at Saintes Maries de la Mer, in the heart of Camargue.
The village centre, its narrow streets, small houses of fishermen whitewashed year after year
and shopping streets enchant the visitor in all seasons.
The village of Saintes Maries de la Mer offers a spectacular setting, charming, different from the nearby resorts.
The Mediterranean richness of our wines and our cuisine will add a finishing touch to your palette of memories.
Built near the mouth of the Little Rhone, the church of Saintes Maries de la Mer had an important strategic position.
Because, at the time of its construction in the IX and XII centuries, pirates raged on the coast
and it was necessary to defend against invasions. The church dominates the village and is visible from 10 km inland.
It is a veritable fortress, consisting of a single, straight, and unadorned nave, 15 metres high.
The roof is surrounded by a rampart wall, with battlements and machicolation serving as watchtower.
From this walkway, you can enjoy an exceptional 360° panoramic view
of the Alpilles mountain range on beautiful, luminous days...
