Visit the ornithological park of Saintes Maries de la Mer
This ornithological park is the ideal site for birdwatching, particularly for pink flamingos. Present all year round in this open-air reserve, take advantage of a stay at a campsite in the Camargue to observe these magnificent birds. Just 5 km from Saintes Maries de la Mer, the Parc ornithologique du Pont de Gau covers 60 hectares of marshland. Follow the winding paths through marshes and reed beds. Keep your eyes peeled for herons, ducks, egrets, swans and more. In such close proximity, you’ll be able to watch them up close and capture them on camera without disturbing them.
Discover the birds of Saintes Maries de la Mer
During the school vacations, the ornithological park organizes guided tours, twilight walks and other fun activities. “On the trail of the migratory birds”, “discovering the pink flamingos”, in the company of a park guide, set off to discover these birds. For escape game enthusiasts, there’s a team investigation game called “The mystery of the missing flamingo”.
See the pink flamingos on parade
The magnificent nuptial parade of pink flamingos in the Camargue lasts a few weeks, from December to February. It’s a veritable choreography. They tirelessly repeat the same movements. They turn their heads from left to right, show the inside of their wings and bow. The singing, the colors, the finesse of the movements – it’s a unique spectacle. Pairs form and a few months later, they give birth to young flamingos, recognizable by their gray color. For photography enthusiasts, this is the perfect location.
