Visit the Saintes Maries de la Mer bullring
A must-see in our village, enter the Saintes Maries de la Mer bullring. Built in the 1930s, they can accommodate 3,000 people. Here you can watch Camargue races, bullfighting and equestrian shows, as well as variety shows such as concerts and open-air cinema.
Discover Camargue racing at Saintes Maries de la Mer
Attend a Camargue race, the traditional sport of our region. Also known as “course à la cocarde”, this discipline features the bull. Released into the arena ring, the bull looks its very best. He wears his attributes on his forehead and at the base of his horns. These include the cockade, a small red cloth and two white woolen tassels. The razeteurs, men in white with a hook in their hand, try to approach the bull to seize these attributes. It’s the cocardier bull that takes the spotlight, sometimes for several years, before retiring to a well-deserved retirement in the middle of the marshes.
Attend a horse show
From July 12 to 15, Les Saintes Maries de la Mer becomes a meeting place for the equestrian arts. For three days, the horse is the undisputed king of the festival. The arena is the setting for a grand equestrian show featuring some of the world’s greatest equestrian artists. Lorenzo, prince of the Camargue and acrobatics, Sélyne and Jéremy Gonzalez and their beautiful Lusitanian horses, Camarkas, the Saint-Sauveur troupe, and Jean-François Pignon and his free-roaming horses.
